Work Parties - message from Victor

Volunteers:

It's getting to be that time of year again. I'd like to start work parties every Wed. and Sat. from 9 AM to 1 PM

We will start March 26th  in the  Androne Woods. Initially, I'll be marking the brush and trees that we need to kill, and anyone else can work at removing barbed wire. As soon as the snow goes we need to start painting trees and brush  with  Garlan-4 and killing garlic mustard. If we have a period when the garlic mustard is the only green, we can spray with a herbicide. After that it will be burning with propane torches.

April and May should see us through the Androne woods. We will need to take a couple of days to burn the Gabower-Reilly and Garza Reserves. Those will be long days.

June and July we will be working in the Garza reserve. We have six acres in which to kill unwanted trees and brush. Where we brushed last summer  and there wasn't enough fuel to carry a burn, we will either have to mow or spray. We will need to take some time from this to cut trails in the Gabower-Reilly and Garza Reserves.

August and Sept. we will be working in the Gabower-Reilly Reserve. We have regrowth east of the creek to kill, some trees and brush along the creek to kill, scattered buckthorn west of the creek, raspberries on the east side of the oak savannah  to the south, and a heavy growth of buckthorn  on the west side of the oak savannah.

In October it will be back to  Androne woodes to burn garlic mustard.

We need all the help we can get. If you get a chance, take a look at the progress we've made.
